This spring brings a new monthly activity to Community Center 151. We are launching KINODVOR, a space dedicated to documentary film, where we move beyond passive viewing and use cinema to inspire action and social change.

Through this program, we aim to use film as a lens to understand today’s society with its multiple, complex realities. We will tackle essential topics—from human rights and current global conflicts to solidarity with resistance movements and marginalized communities—all explored through feminist, queer, and decolonial perspectives.

What to expect in the coming months at KINODVOR:

  • Monthly screenings of politically and socially engaged films.
  • Post-film discussions moderated by special guests to explore and debate the ideas presented on screen.
  • An inclusive environment, with discussions and subtitles adapted for both Romanian and Russian speakers.

First Screening: “The Battle of Algiers” and discussion with Vitalie Sprînceană

We are kicking things off this Saturday (March 21st) with the first event of our Solidarity Cinema module. We have chosen an absolutely monumental film: The Battle of Algiers (La battaglia di Algeri, 1966), directed by Gillo Pontecorvo.

Considered a cinematic “manual” on urban guerrilla and counter-insurgency tactics, the film remains to this day the most influential work on decolonization and the true cost of freedom. After the screening, we will stay together for a discussion moderated by sociologist Vitalie Sprînceană, where we will explore the relevance of decolonial themes in our current global context.
