Between June 6 and July 4, Nordic film reached hundreds of people across the country. As part of the Nordic Days campaign, marking over 30 years of ties between the Nordic countries and the Republic of Moldova, AO Laolaltă was an organizing partner for Nordic Film Days.
Through the network of community centers and open-air screenings in Chișinău, Bălți, Cahul, and Comrat, the films became starting points for conversations about human rights, diversity, nature, and inclusion.
Five films, five countries
The five selected films — from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden — touched on different subjects: from dramatic comedies about the search for identity in youth, to documentaries about Sápmi culture and the connection between people and nature.
The screenings were designed for a diverse audience, from children to the elderly. All films had subtitles in Romanian and Russian, and admission was free at all events.
Open discussions after each screening
Each film was followed by a moderated discussion, with guests and human rights experts. Participants talked about the themes raised in the films, shared their own experiences, and discussed how Nordic values — mutual respect, equality, community responsibility — show up in everyday life in Moldova.
Beyond Chișinău, the community centers in Cahul, Bălți, and Comrat had the same energy — proof that access to culture and meaningful discussions matters just as much everywhere in the country.
